“In the past and for forever, you are my favorite person. Always have been. Always will be. I love you. Everything that you are.”
Today, let’s talk about the book « It Starts with Us » by Collen Hoover.
My thoughts :
After loving It Ends with Us, I was so excited to dive back into the lives of Lily and Atlas and follow this new chapter of their journey together.
The story picks up right where the author left us at the end of It Ends with Us and focuses more on Atlas this time around.
I absolutely loved learning more about his backstory and the challenges he’s faced—it ties up loose ends and answers the questions we had from the first book. Seeing his perspective on his relationship with Lily was such a treat.
As for Lily, she’s grown so much. I found her stronger, more determined, and focused on herself and her daughter above all else. She’s no longer taking anyone’s nonsense, and I loved it.
The romance is sweet and touching. The story itself feels lighter and more comforting compared to the first book (though there are still a few trigger warnings to note). It’s just so heartwarming to see them finally happy—they’ve earned every bit of the joy they have by the end.
Bonus points for the character of Josh, who is just so endearing, and let’s not forget Theo, the best therapist ever.
Colleen Hoover’s writing remains as addictive as ever. It’s such an easy, fast read—once you start, you just can’t stop.
I’ve noticed some readers were a little let down by this one because it’s lighter, but I think that was intentional on the author’s part. After everything they’ve been through, Atlas and Lily deserve a little peace and happiness.
Ps : For fans of It Ends with Us, this book is an absolute must. It’s the perfect happy ending.
